~ DREAMCATCHERS ~

Catching Dreams and reaching for them. Not merely as a means to wander off into an imaginative future, but as a gateway perhaps into our own self, and our given state and experience now. Knowing they belong not only to us but we to them as well. Such as we do in a wider context, in which we all play our parts in the greater scope of Life.

The symbolism, significance, and wisdom drawn from dreams is ancient.

As is the tradition of dreamcatchers far beyond our time and way of life.

It's my deep wish to honor and give thanks, not only to the tradition and history of dreamcatchers but much more so to the cultures, they were born from. The intricate connection with the natural world in which humans are as much a part of nature, as nature is a part of them, cultures in which we are so deeply interwoven with our surroundings that there is no border between the two; unity disguised as duality.

These peoples, cultures, and their traditions represent an immeasurable well of ancient wisdom. Wisdom, that lies dormant in many of us, yet is the very basis of our existence. May my way be in utter respect and appreciation to this. And may I learn and grow in accordance.

~ Asabikeshiinh ~

and the legend of the Spider woman

In Anishinaabemowin (also called Ojibwemowin, the Ojibwe/Ojibwa language, or Chippewa) dreamcatcher is called Asabikeshiinh, which means spider. To understand the true meaning and significance of dreamcatchers, we must understand that to the Ojibwe people spiders were natural guardians of the home, symbolizing both protection and comfort.
